Class Overview

Our class primarily covers the Spanish aristocratic “La Verdadera Destreza” system of rapier fencing, a style grounded in geometric principles, lateral movement, and control of the opponent's weapon. Particularly, we draw from Francisco Lorenz de Rada’s 1705 manual “Nobleza de Espada” the most. Practices usually take the form of a few dynamic warm-up games followed by a technical lesson before concluding with sparring.

Gear Equipment

Class participants are not required to bring gear of their own for the majority of class. However, to ensure that fencers are using protective gear that is sufficiently protective and well-fitting, they must at least have their own fencing mask in order to spar. Otherwise, loaner gear can be provided by the club.

All equipment is subject to a gear check before it is allowed to be used in class.
